How Do I Register for My Joint PhD Courses?

 

You must register for your Doctoral Seminar I and Doctoral Seminar II courses through your home university.  In your official offer of admission, you will receive a username and temporary password you will use to login to your home institutions’ registration system.

FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
Doctoral Seminar I: Research, Theories, and Issues
Historical and philosophical foundations of education are examined through the three fields of study.  An introduction to qualitative methods of research in education, encompassing interview, phenomenological, ethnographic, constructivist, and case study approaches to data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

SECOND YEAR STUDENTS
Doctoral Seminar II: Research, Theories, and Issues
An examination of research, theories, and issues in the fields of study via a specific theme which is identified annually. For example, the theme might be bullying, or caring in education, or gender issues.
An introduction to quantitative methods of research in education, encompassing true experiments, quasi experiments, and correlational studies.

Once you have registered for your course, the Administrative Assistant at your home institution with inform the Office of the Secretariat and you will automatically be registered for the Lakehead D2L/myCourseLink course site that corresponds to your on-campus course. The Joint PhD Secretariat will provide you with your D2L login credentials and a “How to Use D2L” information session will be held during the first week of classes as part of your orientation.

You will register for all of your Fall and Winter term courses via your home institution as well.

Your DSI and DSII instructors may use D2L/myCourseLink in order to send out emails to the class as a whole and it is there that you will find the course syllabus/outline and possibly any required readings/textbooks.
