It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Doctoral Seminar I and Doctoral Seminar II sessions of the Joint PhD in Education. We’re in a strange time, and it may not feel as triumphant as it should, but I would like to congratulate those of you who are commencing your studies on your successful admission to the program, as well as extend congratulations to those of you returning this summer on your accomplishments throughout the year.
This summer The Joint PhD program enters it’s 20th year! The summer doctoral courses provide an exciting venue for launching the new academic year, and marking this auspicious occasion, even in less than ideal circumstances. Your summer instructors have worked diligently to translate the courses to online delivery and develop an engaging, informative, and thought-provoking program intended to promote thoughtful, provocative, and engaging discussions, deliberations, and reflections. The summer doctoral courses will provide you with a unique opportunity to develop and foster collegial relationships and friendships that will sustain and energize you throughout your academic studies and beyond. I strongly encourage you to foster these relationships outside of the online classroom context through virtual meet-ups, and working together.
I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you collectively and individually online during the summer session. In the interim, I wish you a safe and healthy spring, for you and all your loved ones.
Director, Joint PhD in Educational Studies
